Where these numbers come from
- Intuit Payments Standard Pricing Schedule (U.S. only), Standard Customers — September 12, 2023 — read 2026-09-10; the page states "Last updated Last updated September 12, 2023"
- Credit Card Processing Fees & Rates Explained | QuickBooks (payment-rates page) — read 2026-09-10; the page states "Last updated Rates are accurate as of 04/30/2026"
QuickBooks Payments takes a percentage of each payment, set by how your customer pays: 2.99% for an invoice paid by card or digital wallet (Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo), 1% for an invoice paid by ACH bank transfer, 2.5% in person with a card reader or Tap to Pay, 3.5% for a card number typed in, and 1% for PIN debit. International cards and international PayPal accounts add 1%. The Standard QuickBooks Online chart has no monthly fee and no fixed per-transaction fee on card payments. Instant deposit costs 1.75% of the amount deposited. Intuit rounds each fee to the nearest cent.
Checked against QuickBooks Payments's own examples
The calculator reproduces every worked example the platform publishes; these are run as tests before any page is built.
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates (Intuit publishes no worked example on the loaded pages): a $100 invoice paid by card. Page says: total fees $2.99, net $97.01. "Invoiced - card and digital wallet: 2.99%"
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates: $100 taken in person with a card reader. Page says: total fees $2.50, net $97.50. "Card reader - card and digital wallet: 2.5%"
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates: a $100 card number typed in. Page says: total fees $3.50, net $96.50. "Keyed-in - card: 3.5%"
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates: a $5,000 invoice paid by ACH. The Standard schedule lists 1% with no maximum, so the fee is not capped. Page says: total fees $50.00, net $4,950.00. "Invoiced - ACH bank payment: 1%"
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates: a $100 invoice paid with an international card (2.99% + 1%). Page says: total fees $3.99, net $96.01. "International Card or International PayPal: 1%"
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates: a $100 card invoice, then an instant deposit of the $97.01 that remains (1.75% = $1.70). Page says: processing fee $2.99, instant deposit $1.70, total fees $4.69, net $95.31. "For Instant Deposit: a 1.75% fee applies to each amount you select for deposit"
Not included
- QuickBooks Desktop Payments, a separate chart on the same schedule. Pay-as-you-go: 2.4% card reader, 3.5% keyed-in or invoiced card, 1% ACH, 1% international, $0.30 per transaction. Monthly plan ($20 a month): 1.6% card reader, 3.3% keyed-in or invoiced card, 1% ACH, 1% international, $0.30 per transaction.
- QuickBooks Payments API for third-party apps: 3.5% for online card payments, 1% ACH, 1% international.
- Legacy customers (merchant agreements on or before September 12, 2023, or 3-tier qualified pricing). Their rates follow an older schedule, such as the Qualified Pricing Schedule's $20 monthly fee with 1.69% / 2.52% / 3.96% tiers plus $0.30 per card transaction.
- Negotiated rates after a pricing rate review, including the 'up to 25% off transaction costs' Intuit offers by phone to businesses processing over $2,500 a month.
- Chargeback fee ($25 plus the full chargeback amount), ACH or electronic bank reject fee ($25), returned check ($10).
- Payment dispute protection, an optional add-on ('Starting at .99%').
- Buy now, pay later through Affirm (2.99% on the payment-rates page, which says the feature has limited availability); it is not in the Standard schedule chart.
- QuickBooks Online subscription prices, which are billed separately from payment processing.
Notes
- Two Intuit pages agree on the QuickBooks Online rates: the Standard Pricing Schedule (last updated September 12, 2023) and the payment-rates page ('accurate as of 04/30/2026'). The calculator follows the legal schedule, and both pages are re-read nightly.
- ACH: the Standard schedule lists 1% with no maximum. Accounts on older Legacy pricing had capped ACH fees, so if your account predates September 12, 2023 your rate may differ. The schedule also says a per-transaction fee 'may apply for each ACH or electronic bank payment, where applicable' without stating an amount; the calculator adds none.
- The payment-rates page says card rates are the same for every brand, including American Express and corporate cards.
- The 1% international surcharge applies to international cards and international PayPal accounts. The calculator adds it to card and wallet payments only, not to ACH.
- Instant deposit is charged on the amount you choose to deposit. The calculator assumes you instantly deposit the whole payment after processing fees.
