Square fee calculator
An independent calculator, not Square: nothing to sign in to and nothing to pay here. Enter a sale amount and read the fees.
Square takes a percentage plus a fixed amount of the whole transaction including tax and tip: 2.6% + 15¢ in person, 3.3% + 30¢ online or by invoice, and 3.5% + 15¢ keyed in on the free plan, lower on the $49 Plus and $149 Premium plans. Cards issued outside the US add 1.5%.
The nightly check re-reads 24 of the 26 sentences quoted on this page; the rest are in tables or on pages that block automated reading and were verified by a person on 2026-09-08.

Fee per card payment = (percentage rate x transaction total) + fixed cents, where the rate depends on plan (Square Free / Square Plus / Square Premium; monthly plan fee is $0 / $49 / $149 per location) and on how the card was taken (in person tap/dip/swipe; online or invoice; online via Square payments APIs; manually entered or card on file). The base is the whole transaction: 'Payment processing fees are taken out of the total amount of each transaction, including tax and tip', and the same rate applies to every card brand. Cards issued outside the US add a 1.5% international surcharge on top of the base rate (not applied to Afterpay, ACH, Cash App Pay, Bitcoin or EBT). ACH bank transfers cost 1% with a $1 minimum, capped at $10 per payment on invoices (Plus/Premium; the Free column shows no cap) and $5 per payment via the API. Fees are deducted before funds are transferred to the seller's bank; no rounding rule is published; chargebacks/dispute management carry no fee.
Checked against Square's own examples
The calculator reproduces every worked example the platform publishes; these are run as tests before any page is built.
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates (Square publishes no worked example on the loaded pages): $100 tapped in person on Square Free. Page says: total fees $2.75, net $97.25. "2.6% + 15¢"
Not included
- Chargeback / dispute fees (Square states there are none)
- Hardware prices (readers 'starting at $59')
- Square KDS app ($30/$20 per device per month) and Square Kiosk app ($50/$30 per device per month)
- Text message marketing overage (3¢ / 1.5¢ per text)
- Square Payroll ($35/month + $6 per person paid)
- Bitcoin buy/sell (1% plus spread), bitcoin conversions (1.0%/1.0%/0.5%), bitcoin withdrawal network fees ($2 rush / $3 priority)
- Square Gift Card eGift order-site processing (3.3% + 30¢ card-not-present)
- Neighborhoods on Cash App 1% seller fee
- Custom ('Square Pro') negotiated pricing for sellers over $250,000/year
- Square Checking / Savings / Loans
Notes
- The three-column fee table on squareup.com/us/en/pricing, /payments/our-fees and /payments/fee-calculator lost its column headers in text extraction; the Free / Plus / Premium order was inferred from the plan-card order on the page and from the page text ('Lower processing fees' for Plus, 'Lowest processing fees' for Premium, and the FAQ 'Square Premium offers the lowest processing fees'), so the third column (2.4% + 15¢ in person; $149/mo) = Premium, second (2.5% + 15¢; $49/mo) = Plus, first (2.6% + 15¢; $0/mo) = Free. Verify visually before publishing.
- The help article's per-plan dropdowns ('Square Free', 'Square Plus', 'Square Premium') load only on click and could not be captured; the article's explicit rate list is for legacy plans, which match the Free column (2.6% + 15¢ in person, 3.3% + 30¢ online, 2.9% + 30¢ eCommerce API, 3.5% + 15¢ keyed/card on file).
- ACH via invoice: the Free column reads '1%, $1 min' with no cap, while Plus/Premium read '1%, $1 min, $10 fee cap'; the legacy-plan help text says '$10 fee cap on all ACH bank transfer payments' and '$0 fees for ACH transactions deposited into Square Checking'. Calculator author must decide whether Free-plan ACH invoice payments are capped.
- No rounding rule is published anywhere on the loaded pages; the /help/us/en/article/5092-rounding URL redirects to the general fees article.
- The 'Online' rate on the new plans covers 'card payments made online or through an invoice' (3.3% + 30¢ on Free, 2.9% + 30¢ on Plus/Premium), while 'Online API' payments are 2.9% + 30¢ on every plan — so on Square Free an invoice costs more than an API payment.
- Square plans are monthly per location with no annual-billing price on the page; the free-trial length renders as an unfilled template placeholder ('{{sub2_api.num_free_trial_days}}') in the page text, while the FAQ states a 30-day trial.
- The pricing page's only 'as of' dates are for savings APY (Jan 23, 2026) and do not date the fee schedule.
- The in-person and online rates are the same for every card brand ('You can accept every major card — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover — all for the same processing fees').
- Cash App Pay accepted through Square is priced on Square's legacy list at 2.6% + 15¢ (card-present) / 3.3% + 30¢ (card-not-present); the new-plan table does not list Cash App Pay separately.
