TikTok Shop US charges one referral fee, which its policy says 'encompasses all TikTok Shop fees, with the exception of shipping and tax fees.' The fee is 6% for most categories and 5% for diamond, gold, jade, platinum or carat gold, and ruby, sapphire or emerald jewelry. Collectibles pay 6% and pre-owned items pay 5%, and both pay 3% on any portion of a sale above $10,000. The fee base is 'Buyer Paid + Platform Discount - Tax': discounts TikTok funds do not lower the fee, discounts you fund do, and shipping the buyer pays is included.
Checked against TikTok Shop's own examples
The calculator reproduces every worked example the platform publishes; these are run as tests before any page is built.
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates (TikTok's refund scenarios compute '$10*6%*20%', a $0.60 referral fee on a $10 SKU): a $10 item in a standard category. Page says: referral fee $0.60, net $9.40. "$10*6%*20%"
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates: a $25 item with $5 shipping paid by the buyer, standard category, so 6% of $30. Page says: referral fee $1.80, net $28.20. "Buyer Paid + Platform Discount - Tax"
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates: $1,000 of diamond jewelry at 5%. Page says: referral fee $50.00, net $950.00. "Jewelry Accessories & Derivatives+ Diamond 5%"
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates: $15,000 of trading cards, 6% of the first $10,000 plus 3% of the $5,000 above it. Page says: referral fee $750.00, net $14,250.00. "Any portion of the sale over $10K, 3%"
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates: a $12,000 pre-owned watch, 5% of $10,000 plus 3% of $2,000. Page says: referral fee $560.00, net $11,440.00. "Pre-Owned+ Watches 5% Any portion of the sale over $10K, 3%"
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rates: $9,999 of trading cards stays below the $10,000 threshold, so all of it is at 6%. Page says: referral fee $599.94, net $9,399.06. "Any portion of the sale over $10K, 3%"
Not included
- Shipping label costs and Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) fees.
- Affiliate creator commissions, which you set per product.
- New-seller promotional referral rates, which TikTok says continue until the end of each promotional period.
- Sales tax on referral fees for sellers whose business address is in West Virginia or Texas, collected since November 1, 2025; the rate depends on the state.
- The Refund Administration Fee on refunds: 20% of the referral fee, capped at $5 per SKU.
Notes
- TikTok's policy lists no separate transaction or payment processing fee: the referral fee 'encompasses all TikTok Shop fees, with the exception of shipping and tax fees.'
- The calculator's item price is the price after any discount you fund. Discounts TikTok funds are added back into the base, so they do not change the fee.
- TikTok calls the 2024 chart 'the latest referral fee rates by category'. The 3% rate applies only to the portion of a collectible or pre-owned sale above $10,000.
- TikTok publishes no rounding rule; the calculator rounds half-up to the cent.
- Re-read 2026-10-12. TikTok updated the category chart article on 10/08/2026: every rate in the chart is unchanged, and the article now states the formula itself, 'Referral Fee = Referral Fee Rate × (Customer Payment + Platform Discount − Tax)', adding that the base 'includes the shipping fee paid by the customer', which is how this calculator already worked. The page's 'AI Summary' box was reworded; it is no longer quoted, the article's own sentence is.
