For listings created or updated on or after January 6, 2025, the seller pays a flat 10% selling fee on the combined item price plus buyer-paid shipping; no separate payment-processing fee is charged to either side. The buyer pays a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the same base (item price + buyer-paid shipping), shown in the checkout total and not deducted from the seller. Legacy listings created before January 6, 2025 and never updated carry the old structure instead: no seller fee, but the buyer pays a 10% service fee and a payment-processing fee of $0.50 + 2.9% of the transaction price (item + shipping + service fee + sales tax). Payouts: ACH direct deposit is free (once per day; $2 for each failed request); Instant Pay costs a flat $3 per cash-out (once per day, up to $600/month). Rounding is not published.
Checked against Mercari's own examples
The calculator reproduces every worked example the platform publishes; these are run as tests before any page is built.
- Arithmetic check derived from the published rate: $50 item with $5 buyer-paid shipping pays 10% of $55. Page says: total fees $5.50, net $49.50. "10% selling fee"
Not included

- Mercari Authenticate listing fee ($5) and Certificate of Authenticity ($10)

- Legal document processing fee ($25/hour, paid by agencies)
- Third-party warranties (buyer-paid)
- Sales tax
Notes
- Timeline (official): March 2024 — seller fees removed and a buyer service fee introduced ('When we initially introduced our current fee structure in March ... sellers got to keep 100% of their sales proceeds'); January 6, 2025 — 10% selling fee reinstated, 3.6% Buyer Protection fee introduced, payment-processing fee dropped for new/updated listings, $2 ACH cash-out fee removed at 2:00 PM PT; January 6–12, 2025 — transition week with no 10% fee on old-structure listings; May 7, 2026 — prepaid USPS label rates changed for the fuel surcharge (fee page 'Updated 05/07/2026'). No 2026 change to the 10% / 3.6% structure appears on official pages.
- Conflict: several third-party pages date the reinstated 10% fee to 'January 6, 2026' — UNVERIFIED and contradicted by Mercari's own pages, which say January 6, 2025.
- Calculator ambiguity: the fee base is 'item price + buyer-paid shipping'. When the seller offers free shipping there is no buyer-paid shipping in the base, and the label cost comes out of the seller's proceeds (label prices from the rate table); when the buyer pays shipping via a Mercari label, the fee is 10% of item + shipping even though the shipping money passes through to the carrier.
- Legacy structure applies only to listings created before Jan 6, 2025 that were never updated; Mercari said existing listings would be 'updated automatically within a week', so it should be rare in 2026.
- Instant Pay details ($3 flat, $600/month, once per day, up to 30 minutes) come from the fee page; the dedicated Instant Pay how-to article (article 93) is JavaScript-rendered and returned an empty body to HTTP fetchers.
