With Shopify Payments, online card payments cost 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic, 2.7% on Grow and 2.5% on Advanced (premium cards 3.5%/3.3%/3.1%), in person 2.6%/2.5%/2.4% + 10¢, plus 1% for cards issued outside the US. Using another payment provider adds Shopify's 2%/1%/0.6% transaction fee on top of that provider's charges. Plans are $39/$105/$399 a month.

Two separate fees. (1) Shopify Payments card processing: fee = rate x amount + fixed cents, charged when you capture payment; the rate depends on plan (Basic / Grow / Advanced / Plus) and channel — online standard cards 2.9% / 2.7% / 2.5% (+ 30¢), online premium cards (commercial/corporate/business cards and all domestic Amex) 3.5% / 3.3% / 3.1% (+ 30¢), in-person cards 2.6% / 2.5% / 2.4% (+ 10¢), in-person manual entry 3.5% + 10¢ on every plan; cards issued outside the US add 1% ('cross-border fee'); paying in a non-payout currency adds a 1.5% currency conversion fee (US). The loaded pages do not itemize the base for card fees beyond 'the payment for an order' (i.e. the captured order amount). (2) Third-party transaction fee, charged by Shopify only when a third-party payment provider processes the payment (or on the store-credit/gift-card portion for stores created on or after May 12, 2025): 2% / 1% / 0.6% / 0.2% of [(cost of products - discounts) + tax + shipping charges]; waived entirely when Shopify Payments is the sole provider; if Shopify Payments runs alongside a third-party provider, Shopify Payments transactions also carry a 1.25% premium. Card fees are not returned on refunds, and neither are third-party fees where Shopify Payments is available, as it is in the US (elsewhere Shopify credits the third-party fee in proportion to the refund). No rounding rule is published.

Notes

The pricing page defaults to the 'Pay yearly' toggle, so the headline prices ($29 / $89 / $359) are the annual-billing effective monthly rates; monthly billing is $39 / $105 / $399. Plus is 'Starts at $2,300 USD/mo' with no price under Pay yearly and a 'Try for $399' offer.
Plus card rates: until October 2026 the Plus column of the comparison table read 'Most competitive rates'. It now lists numbers: online standard 2.25% + 30¢, online premium 2.95% + 30¢, in person 2.3% + 10¢, manually entered 3.4% + 10¢, third-party transaction fee 0.2%. (The Plus plan card's 'Card rates from 2.25% + 30¢ USD' line, which agreed with this, was removed on 2026-10-26.)
The base for Shopify Payments card fees is not itemized on the loaded pages (fees are charged 'when you capture the payment for an order'); the third-party transaction fee formula explicitly includes tax and shipping. Calculator author must decide whether to apply card rates to the order total including shipping and tax (consistent with fees on the captured amount).
'Online international rates + 1%' on the pricing page corresponds to the help center's '1% cross-border fee on all sales made with a credit card issued in another country' for US stores; the pricing page lists it only under online rates, so treatment of international cards in person is unspecified.
Online 'premium' card rates apply to domestic commercial/corporate/business cards and all domestic American Express cards — a calculator needs the card type as an input.
Third-party transaction fees also apply to the store-credit/gift-card portion of orders for stores created on or after May 12, 2025, even when Shopify Payments is used.
If Shopify Payments is used alongside a third-party provider, Shopify Payments transactions are charged standard rates plus a 1.25% premium.
Currency conversion fee is 1.5% for US stores (2% France/other; 3% for PayPal Wallet) and is charged in the payout currency; it is not refunded on refunds.
No rounding rule is published on the loaded pages.

Re-read 2026-10-12. Shopify's 'Third-party transaction fees' help page no longer carries the sentence that stores on the Plus plan using Shopify Payments as their sole provider have these fees waived, 'including fees on store credit and gift cards'. No loaded page now states a Plus exemption, so this schedule no longer claims one. The pricing page's comparison table now shows Plus rates where it said 'Most competitive rates', and nothing under Pay yearly for Plus; the eight table rows quoted here were re-pinned to the page as it reads today, so all 38 quotes are machine-checked. The calculator covers Basic, Grow and Advanced only; every rate it uses is unchanged.
Re-read 2026-10-21. Shopify raised the yearly-billing prices: Grow $79 to $89 a month and Advanced $299 to $359 (the 'Pay yearly' row and the Grow and Advanced plan cards). Basic's $29, the monthly-billing prices $39 / $105 / $399, Plus 'from $2,300' and every card rate on the page are unchanged. The calculator shows the yearly price in its plan note only; no fee it computes changed.
Re-read 2026-10-26. Shopify simplified the pricing page's plan cards: the 'Card rates from 2.7% / 2.5% / 2.25% + 30¢ USD' lines on the Grow, Advanced and Plus cards are gone (Basic's now reads 'Card rates from 2.9% + 30¢ USD online' in a separate block), and the comparison table's POS Pro row lost its description ('Advanced tools for brick-and-mortar retailers'). The three dropped quotes were removed and the POS Pro row re-pinned. No rate changed: the comparison table still lists every card rate, quoted above, for all four plans exactly as before.
Re-read 2026-11-04. Shopify's 'Third-party transaction fees' help page now splits its refund sentence by country: where Shopify Payments is available, third-party transaction fees aren't returned when you refund an order; where it isn't, the fee is credited in proportion to the refund. This schedule covers US stores, so what it said for them still holds; the quote was re-pinned and the structure line now states the split. No rate changed: all 35 quotes match pages read in full, with this one re-pinned. The pricing page's Balance earnings-rate footnote moved to November 3, 2026; the calculator does not use that rate.
